DAY 5:
Todays post is a shorty; it’s a reminder about why it feels good to catch up with the people around us, whether it’s friends, family, colleagues or new people we’ve just met.
I’m often guilty of withdrawing, especially if I’m tired or have something on my mind. My natural response is to be with myself, not necessarily by myself….I have a family so it’s unusual that I’m home alone. But I am very capable of sinking into myself and becoming less sociable. There is nothing wrong with spending quality time with ourselves and it can be good for us to do so, as long as we spend this time purposefully. If it’s to enjoy our own personal space, think about life positively, mindfully, read, walk, grab a coffee, go to watch a film we’ve been meaning to catch at the cinema. These moments are nurturing.
Dwelling isn’t, and it can be tricky to tell the difference sometimes. What I have become aware of is that when I think I’m too tired or don’t feel like going out to see anyone, it’s not long before I’m grateful I made the effort. Seeing other people and chatting about everyday stuff lightens the mood. It reminds us how good it feels to communicate and connect, it enlivens us with a sense of belonging. We are sociable creatures and we are not alone. We were never meant to be alone.
